Makers of Melbourne -Interview

MoM : Hi Jam, Thanks for taking the time to talk with us-What was the inspiration behind Lah de dah?
Jam: Lah de da was the brain child of a vintage retailer (Giana) and a stylist (me).
Giana had a passion for vintage wear and as for me, lived and breath independent labels – especially Melbourne designers
(not to be biased but Melbourne really does rock).
We wanted to create a place where people can shop in one place without the pretentiousness and attitude you sometimes receive in stores (i.e. Chain store retailers). We also wanted to support graduates and new fashion and accessory designers to showcase their work and provide them the necessary exposure without the hassle of having to open up a store.
Lah de da Bazaar was in idea about uniting the old (vintage) and the new (independent labels).
MoM :Was it a challenge to find the right location?
Jam: Our friends recently bought Precinct which is now called Biero Bar.
Giana and I proposed the idea of a bazaar being held in Biero, We thought the heritage listed building would suit the event and provide that romantic environment we were looking for!
Thankfully Biero was happy to collaborate.
MoM: Can you tell us how you found the stall holders?
Jam: Through our hard-out marketing. We posted flyer’s, posted our event on event websites, emailed fashion bloggers and designers, word of mouth, Facebook, Twitter and through our website.
MoM: And lastly, how did Amber Renae from Project Runway Australia get involved-What will she be doing on Sunday?
Jam: Amber hosted an event Giana previously organised. We wanted Amber, who is also a celebrity stylist and ex Fashion Editor of XandY Mag to host the Kittenwalk.
The Kittenwalk is a mini parade using and incorporating vintage with local labels and showcasing them on the models.
We created this purely to give people some ideas how to wear vintage with current trends-I’ll be doing the styling for the parade.
If you are interested in being a stall holder at Lah de dah please email:
